Hi, I'm Ali Sahl
Founder of Activated Transformation
WHAT I STAND FOR:
Achieving optimum health for a longer healthspan!
In 1989, my sister Angie and I experienced our “trigger” in life when she was diagnosed with cancer. Although she is healthy today, we both realized the importance of living each day to the fullest. When you are faced with your own mortality, you find yourself asking, “Did I live well? Did I spend enough time with my family? Did I really make a difference?” In response, I entered the nursing profession wishing to help others like my sister. A cancer diagnosis rocks the foundation of the entire family unit. Sadly, I am sure many of you are familiar as it seems cancer is a more common diagnosis than ever these days. That history set me on course to stay curious and always be learning how to better care for ourselves.
After working as a critical care nurse for 25 years, I realized that it was nearly impossible to spend enough time with my patients. With increasing documentation issues, staffing shortages, and mounting administrative duties, I knew I didn’t want to be nursing at the bedside until I was 65 years old or continue putting a band-aid on a huge, gaping, chronic wound. I was getting paid too little to do too much. If you have ever had the misfortune of participating in our western "sickness care" industry, I don't need to tell you the system is broken and failing. The thing western medicine is exceptional at is our trauma response system. Chronic illness is handled poorly. In fact, 86% of our healthcare dollars are spend managing chronic illness. 86%!!!
Speaking of chronic illness, 10+ years ago I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and then 3 other autoimmune disorders that went undiagnosed and untreated for at least 12 years. Maybe more. I was repeatedly told that "nothing is wrong with you" while feeling so fatigued, I felt like I had bricks for feet. Bad, skin, dry, frizzy hair, a puffy face, thin nails that would peel and break, sleeping 12+ hours while continuing to feel unrested, random GI troubles and joint pain, a menstrual cycle so awful that I carried a change of clothes with me in the trunk of the car, and chronic underlying depression and brain fog. BUT NOPE, the doctors kept telling me I'm perfectly healthy! Even as a critical care RN inside the system, I struggled to navigate all of this. I started reading and, at the ripe old age of 32, found a physician that was A4M certified. (American Academy of Antiaging Medicine). She did not accept insurance but I was determined to find answers and I made an appointment. She Is the one that let me tell my story AND made me feel heard. She drew the correct labs and diagnosed my with Hashimoto's. Bingo!
Since that day, I have discovered the concept of functional medicine which digs to uncover the root cause of illness.
I have tried on many concepts including:
- dietary modifications
- nutrient testing
- heavy metal testing/detox
- bioidentical hormone testing and treatment
- many kinds of supplements and creams
- exercise programs
- testing aging markers such as telomeres and mitochondria
- hacking my sleep
- meditation challenges
- using "clean" kitchen tools and supplies
- water and shower filters/treatment
- microbiome and gut healing protocols
- IV nutritional therapy
- stress reduction
- clean beauty/ personal care items
- toxin free homecare and cleaning agents
It's been a long, expensive, time consuming journey and I am in remission. Bam!
I feel my mission is to help all of you with health improvements by sharing what I have learned, experienced, and know.
I am now a Nurse coach. A nurse coach is a health and wellness coach that is a formally medically trained, licensed, and board certified RN.
The bonus is that if need be, I can communicate with your physician, navigate a list of medications and supplements, and communicate with your doctor in a manner compliant with privacy rules and laws. In the near future, I plan to be able to accept HSA/FSA payments.
If you are someone that would like to make health improvements, follow along. Options will include 1:1 coaching, hybrid online and in person courses, group coaching, and DIY courses. I'll also drop tips about my favorite life changing hacks and products.
